Zanda of Worcestershire

Zanda was born on the 3rd of September 1999 on a farm near the Clee Hills in Shropshire.  His father's name is Ben, a handsome New Zealand imported dog, age 4 and his mother aged 9.  Both are working dogs.  Zanda was one of seven, three had black and tan markings and the rest were all black.  Zanda came home with us at 4 weeks as the litter had been separated from their mother as she became ill.  He was about the size of a Guinea Pig.

Zanda is 25" to the shoulder, 4ft 4" nose to tail and weighs 26kg.  His main characteristics are his deep bark, his "tigger" like action in long grass to get his bearings, his tail held slightly curved over his back and his ability to run at a steady speed for long distances.  He is very loving to his family, gentle yet wary of strangers who he thinks look threatening.  He is obedient and extremely easy to train.  At home he is completely loopy but mostly you wouldn't know he was there, unless he chooses to lie on your feet.  He sleeps at the end of our bed, which started at the beginning to separate him from our other dog Nova - but was meant to end when he grew up, but we have never had the heart.  He's my big baby and I wouldn't change him for the world.

Huntaways, if they are similar to Zanda, would make fantastic pets as they are loving, gentle and have great respect for their owners.  They would make wonderful working dogs, not only on a farm but also in rescue services due to their stamina, easy to train, reaction to handler and of course their bark.

An excellent breed which has kept itself a secret for so long; I know I wish I had found one a long time ago.

Verity

Where's Mom? among giants.. Is this the hand of friendship? Am I handsome or what?
