Hey Boy of Manilla, AustraliaI found my NZ Huntaway Hey Boy ten years ago abandoned in an Australian bush. The chain around his neck, placed there when he was a tiny pup, was just about to strangle him. Years later he still had some problems getting his food down. He is very healthy, affectionate, friendly and highly inteligent dog. He reads eyes and a tiny whisper is enough for him to get the message. For years he was silent, later I have encouraged him to bark and today I'm sometimes sorry that I did. Everytime some visitor comes by, he wants to "tell all"... But the rest of the time instead of barking he communicates by either short high-pitched squeel to get my attention, or by grunting, almost as if trying to immitate my talking. He never licks people like other dogs, only occasionally he gently touches a hand with his nose as a gesture of gratitude. He's not demanding and never begs for food while people eat. Instead he lies near by, looking the other way and pretending that he is not concerned, while obviously knowing very well, that at the end he will get as usual some leftovers. He's crazy about the milk and loves frozen processed kangaroo meat. For his good looks and exceptional manners he is the only dog allowed inside the Parramatta Town Hall during the regular Record Fairs there. With thousands of feet walking around him, he sleeps all day underneath the table on a piece of blanket and wakes up only for his regular toasted sandwich with ham and egg. In ten years we have travelled together thousands of kilometres from Queensland to Melbourne, and everywhere we stop he remembers the exact spot where he piddled the last time... Who needs children with a companion like this one... John Pear & Hey Boy
