Brownie of Malta, Montana

Brownie is 6 years old. We live in Malta, MT. We got her from some friends in Miles City MT. She was originally a gift for my father-in-law for a companion. When we first brought her home she was a pot bellied, all paws, homely, sickly looking thing. I was actually astounded my husband had put out good money for this dog, when there are so many dogs around here to give away or are at least cheaper than she was! J.J. (my father-in-law), took one look at her and said we had better keep her until she was feeling better. Its been a long illness, as we still have her, and wouldn't know what to do without her.

Her main job is gathering the horses every morning and night. She doesn't shut up until everyone of them is in. We only have 14 acres, but 3 separate pastures. She goes everywhere with us whether it is a horseback ride, bike ride, or family vacation. When the kids have their 4-H lamb projects, and walk them down the highway or wherever they go, Brownie is right there. She is going to debute at the fair this year in Dog 1. That should prove interesting, as she is definitely MY dog and my 10 year old son will be her handler.

Winters are tough on Brownie as she is the short hair type. Laying in front of the wood stove, and fighting her way for the couch, has kept her at a near 90 pounds. Some nights it gets pretty cozy with my husband, myself, our son, and Brownie all on the couch. And no, its not oversize! My daughter has better sense, and finds her own chair. Now that the weather has started to warm up, its time to saddle up and go for some runs.

We have 3 cats. Patches in the pictures is Brownie's playmate. They get along great. One other she is extremely jealous of and hates it when we pay attention to that cat and not her. The 3rd, well no lost love there. They both keep their distance. Brownie is very loyal. She reminds me of a German shepherd cross dog I once had, only Brownie is much friendlier, and noisier! I could go on and on, but basically there will never be another Brownie.
